FG provides 40 houses to IDPs in Zamfara

The Federal Government has provided 40 houses to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Zamfara State, as part of its efforts to address the humanitarian challenges in the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, handed over the houses to the Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Aliyu, at the resettlement city built by the Refugees Commission at Gidan Dawa area of Gusau on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by Rasheed Zubair, the minister’s spokesperson, Edu said that the project was part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which underscores the paramount importance of the welfare of internally displaced persons.
She said that President Tinubu is determined to provide more shelter to IDPs across the country, and that a new dawn has birthed for them.
Edu also called on the international communities, private establishments, and public spirited individuals to support humanitarian response in the state. She said that the ministry would provide more lighting to the resettlement city as part of security measures. She also responded positively to the governor’s request to build more homes and cities for the IDPs in other parts of the state.
“Mr. Governor, all you need to do is to provide us with lands and other requirements at the state level that will enable us to build as requested,” she said.
The governor commended the Federal Government for its interest in the security situation in the state and appreciated its collaborative efforts in alleviating the suffering of the people. He said that Zamfara was in dire need of support and requested for two more projects, one each in Zamfara North and West Senatorial Districts.
“This Resettlement City Project is not just a physical endeavour; it is a beacon of hope for the beneficiaries and the state,” he said.
The Commissioner of National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Alhaji Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, said that with Mrs. Edu’s approval, more programmes, projects and opportunities would come to the state under his commission.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and representatives of IDPs. The beneficiaries of the houses expressed their gratitude to the federal government and prayed for peace and stability in the country.
