FG raises military personnel’s salaries, approves pension payments

President Bola Tinubu has authorized an immediate salary increase for the Nigerian military, including the payment of three months of arrears.
Additionally, funds have been released to settle pensions and other outstanding entitlements owed to retired military personnel.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle, via a statement from the Ministry of Defence’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Henshaw Ogubike.
According to the minister, alerts for the three-month salary arrears have already begun reaching military personnel.
Dr Matawalle expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his swift action in addressing military welfare, emphasizing that the President’s intervention demonstrates his commitment to improving the living standards of both active and retired personnel.
“This initiative reflects the President’s dedication to enhancing the living standards of those who have served the nation,” the statement read.
Commitment to Retirees
Dr. Matawalle assured retired military officers that pension arrears would continue to receive attention, pledging the government’s commitment to addressing their welfare comprehensively.
He also lauded the efforts of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, whose support was instrumental in securing the funds for these payments.
Boosting Morale and Security
The Defence Minister called on the Nigerian military to remain steadfast in their duties, highlighting President Tinubu’s resolve to boost morale and provide necessary support to combat insecurity.
“Rest assured that Mr. President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” Matawalle said.
Acknowledging the military’s critical role in combating insurgency, terrorism, and other security challenges, the Minister reiterated the administration’s commitment to eradicating insecurity and empowering the armed forces.
