FG reaffirms commitment to food security, launches ASWG

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring food security across the nation, with a renewed focus on strengthening agricultural planning and coordination. The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, made this known at the inaugural meeting of the Agricultural Sector Working Group (ASWG) held in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Minister Edun emphasized the urgent need for a more agile and resilient approach to agricultural development, calling for strategic alignment with the post-Malabo agenda—a continental framework aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and food systems.
He emphasized the importance of improving access to finance, increasing productivity, and unlocking opportunities for value-added agricultural exports as key priorities.
“Agriculture remains central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic priorities,” Edun stated, assuring stakeholders of the Ministry’s full support in driving progress in the sector.
The newly inaugurated ASWG is expected to foster collaboration across sectors and promote effective implementation of policies geared towards achieving both national and continental food security objectives.
According to the Minister, the initiative represents a crucial step toward sustainable food systems, economic growth, and improving the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.
The Ministry of Finance’s backing, he said, will help create long-term, impactful change in the agricultural landscape.
