FG to distribute 5m LPG cylinders by 2030, targets clean energy access

The federal government has disclosed plans to distribute 5 million liquefied natural gas (LPG) cylinders to various households across the country by the year 2030.
Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, who made this disclosure at the flag-off of the Northwest Zone phase of the grassroots LPG Penetration Programme in Sokoto, described the programme as another effort by the FG to bring clean energy access to all Nigerians.
According to him, the programme had been successfully launched in the Southwest, Southsouth, Northeast and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“With support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our goal is to distribute 5 million LPG cylinders by 2030, converting one million households each year to cleaner, safer, and more sustainable cooking methods. This programme isn’t just about gas—it’s about health, opportunity, and environmental responsibility,” he said.
Ekpo said the initiative would reduce indoor air pollution, curb deforestation, create jobs and empower women and the youth along the LPG value chain, stressing that the programme would also support local manufacturers and distributors.
He expressed gratitude to Sokoto State’s Governor Ahmad Aliyu and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar II, for warm reception and support as well as the BUA Group for sponsoring the distribution and bringing LPG to the reach of undeserved communities.
“I am especially grateful to the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, for the warm welcome and continued support, and to His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto for his leadership and commitment to the welfare of our people,” he said.
