FG to dualise Bodo-Bonny–East-West road link, says Umahi
The Federal Government is set to undertake the dualisation of the 8.9-kilometre road linking the Bodo-Bonny Road to the East-West Road in Rivers State, following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Adeleye Falade, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting focused on the completed Bodo-Bonny Road and the next phase of development aimed at connecting it to the East-West Road, a major transport corridor in the Niger Delta.
Umahi said the project will include concrete construction, two flyovers, solar-powered streetlights, tree planting, rest areas, and CCTV surveillance systems.
He added that the administration is prioritising durable infrastructure expected to last between 50 and 100 years, noting that the project is expected to be completed within 12 months without price variation.
He put the cost of the project at about N150 billion due to the difficult terrain, adding that savings from the completed Bodo-Bonny Road have been redirected to enhance safety and environmental features along the route.
“For the first time you see a road is built, it has solar light. So that people can travel at night and it will increase commercial activity and also safety on the road,” he said.
Earlier, the NLNG chief executive commended the Federal Government for the completed Bodo-Bonny Road, noting that it has significantly reduced travel time and improved access for businesses and residents.
