FG to enroll out-of-school children in FCT under “Back2School” initiative

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, is set to formally hand over children identified in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for enrollment into classrooms. This effort is part of the “Back2School” initiative launched earlier this year to promote educational inclusivity.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, in collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE), is spearheading the program. The handover ceremony, scheduled to run from Friday, November 15, to Saturday, November 16, 2024, will take place at designated locations across the FCT.

With the approval of the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the government has ensured that these children will be absorbed into schools at no cost to their parents.

The handover ceremony schedule includes:

Kado Centre: Junior Secondary School Kado Kucl (November 15, 10:00 AM)

Karu: LEA Karu Central Primary School (November 16, 9:00 AM)

Deidei: LEA Primary School (November 16, 11:00 AM)

Kuje: Science Primary School (November 16, 1:00 PM)

Dr. Alausa commended the unwavering support of the Executive Secretary of NCAOOSCE, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, and the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Mr. Nyesom Wike, in making the initiative a reality.

“This program demonstrates the government’s commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children and advancing the goal of achieving inclusive and equitable education for all,” Dr. Alausa stated.
