FG to establish cattle breeding centres across six regions — Minister
The Federal Government has announced plans to establish cattle breeding centres across all six geopolitical zones in the country, as part of efforts to modernise livestock production and improve food security.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, made the disclosure during the Citizens-Government Engagement and Midterm Assessment of the Tinubu administration, held on the second day of the forum organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation in Kaduna.
Dr. Abdullahi said the initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and would be implemented through a collaborative framework involving multiple ministries.
“The synergy and collaboration of the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Livestock Development, and the Blue Economy are imperative for delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the Minister stated.
He noted that the planned centres would not only boost livestock productivity but also help address security concerns arising from open grazing by promoting ranching and sustainable animal husbandry practices.
The move, according to the Minister, is part of plans aimed at revamping the agricultural sector, strengthening food systems, and reducing the country’s reliance on imported dairy and meat products.
He also highlighted the role of private sector partnerships and community involvement in ensuring the long-term success of the centres.
The Kaduna engagement was part of a series of interactive sessions aimed at fostering citizen participation and evaluating progress made under the current administration’s agricultural reform programmes.
