The Federal Government has unveiled plans to adopt advanced technologies to promote year-round mechanized farming nationwide.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed this on Tuesday during a briefing with State House correspondents in Abuja.

He emphasized the pivotal role of technology in modernizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector, highlighting the government’s exploration of drone technology to enhance key farming activities such as cultivation, harvesting, and pest control.

“The use of technology, particularly drones, will help fast-track agricultural activities, enabling farmers to plant, cultivate, and harvest more efficiently,” Kyari said.

Addressing funding challenges faced by smallholder farmers, the minister acknowledged the difficulty in accessing financial support. He revealed that the ministry is developing alternative funding models by collaborating with private sector partners to invest in mechanized farming and provide support to rural farmers.
