FG to meet UK varsity over alleged deportation of Nigerian students

A delegation from the Nigerian Federal Government is set to meet with officials from Teesside University in the United Kingdom to address allegations of an “unjust deportation order” affecting Nigerian students.
This was announced by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) in a statement released recently.
The controversy arose on May 22 when several Nigerian students staged a protest in response to directives from the university requiring them to leave the UK. The university alleges that some students had defaulted on their tuition payments.
In response to the situation, NIDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa conducted a virtual meeting with some of the affected students last Sunday.
During the meeting, it was agreed that a delegation, led by Amb. Christian Okeke, a representative of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK, would meet with Teesside University management to seek a resolution.
Dabiri-Erewa further urged the students to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, while also appealing to the university to handle the matter with fairness.
