FG, UK’s Propcom+ partner on agricultural transformation, economic growth

By Kunle Sanni
The Federal Government has announced a new partnership with Propcom+, a UK Aid-funded programme, aimed at transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector and driving broad-based economic growth.
The collaboration was formalized on Wednesday when the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, received a delegation from Propcom+ at his office in Abuja.
Edun emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusive growth through agriculture, outlining plans to improve access to subsidized farm inputs and expand financing for smallholder farmers during both wet and dry seasons. He noted that the effort involves coordinated work with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, and other partners.
The minister also highlighted the government’s focus on transparency and efficiency, including the use of biometric systems to deliver direct support to vulnerable populations and initiatives to link farmers with profitable markets.
The Propcom+ delegation, led by Political Director and Team Leader Dr. Adiya Ode, expressed strong interest in supporting Nigeria’s agricultural reforms, particularly in regions affected by climate challenges and conflict.
The partnership is expected to strengthen climate-resilient, market-led agricultural development across Nigeria and improve livelihoods for millions—marking a significant milestone in the country’s drive for agricultural transformation and economic stability.
