FG uncovers 1,618 civil servants with forged employment letters

The Federal Government has uncovered 1,618 staff in the Civil Service with fake employment letters.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at a press briefing for the 2024 Civil Service Week.
She revealed that through physical verification conducted by the government’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Federal Civil Service has been reduced from over 100,000 to 69,308.
The HoS disclosed that in addition to the issue of ghost workers flaunting fictitious job letters, certain civil servants went abroad in search of better opportunities but continued to receive their salaries.
She said all such cases have been deleted from the Integration Personnel Payroll and Information System (IPPIS).
Dr Yemi-Esan stated that to ensure shady business practices were removed from the system, her office has been collaborating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
She revealed great strides have been made towards digitising and transforming work processes. According to her, each MDA implementing the digitalization initiative is at a different stage but, must complete the move by the end of 2025.
