FG vows action in murder of soldier, Kebbi abductions, Kwara church attack

The federal government has announced new security measures in response to recent deadly attacks across the country, including the killing of a senior military officer, the abduction of schoolchildren in Kebbi State, and an assault on a church in Kwara State.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Tinubu has placed Nigeria’s security architecture on its “highest alert ever” and directed security forces to intensify operations against terrorists, bandits, and criminal gangs nationwide.

Idris conveyed the president’s sympathies to families affected by the incidents, describing the attacks as “heinous” assaults targeting the nation’s future, unity, and places of worship.

He cautioned against what he called “divisive and narrow rhetoric” portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as religiously motivated, stressing that such claims are “factually inaccurate and dangerously counterproductive.”

According to him, the ongoing violence stems from a mix of terrorism, banditry, and criminality affecting citizens across all regions and faiths. He emphasised that Nigeria remains a multi-faith nation where freedom of worship is constitutionally protected.

The minister said security agencies have been directed to rescue the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls swiftly and reunite them with their families.

He urged Nigerians to stand united, reject misinformation, and support ongoing national security efforts.

“Our common enemies are terrorists, bandits, and criminals seeking to destabilise our nation,” Idris said, adding that the federal government is deploying all available resources to defeat them decisively.
