FG warns against abuse of disability rights

The Federal Government has said it will no longer tolerate acts capable of abusing the rights of persons with disability, especially at the workplace.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi gave the warning during a road show, in further advocacy to sensitise citizens, especially informal workers on disability rights.

The minister who was represented by Director, Social Security and Cooperative Development, Franca Adiekweh said the road show was also aimed at encouraging citizens to defend and protect the rights of persons with disability, either in formal or informal setting.

Executive Secretary of National Commission for Persons with Disability, Ayuba Gufwa, who joined the road show narrated cases of increased violation of the disability rights, especially in the informal setting.

He called on the National Assembly to review the act establishing the agency for stiffer penalties for violators.

Gufwa said every year, more people join the community of persons with disabilities due to accidents, health conditions, and age, and called for increased care for the community.
