FIBA Women Afrobasket: D’Tigress beat Senegal to qualify for final

Nigeria’s women basketball team, the D’Tigress, are just a win away from successfully defending the FIBA Afrobasket title after securing their place in the final of the ongoing editiion in Abidjan, Cote d’Iviore.

The Nigerians booked the final ticket after overcoming Senegal, 78-65 in a tough contest on Saturday evening at the Palais de Sports de Treichville, in Abidjan.

D’Tigress started on a strong note, winning the first and second quarters, thus winning the first half 43-37.

Senegal came back stronger later in the match, stretching the Nigerians to the limit.

The Senegalese turned it around in the third quarter, winning the round by 58-52 points.

A dogged Nigerian side, however, regrouped and reclaimed control of the game in the final quarter, to deservedly emerge winner on the night.

It is the fifth consecutive final appearance for Nigeria who awaits the winner of the second semi final between Mali and South Sudan for Sunday’s final.
