The Federal Ministry of Finance has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee, a move aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the public service.
During the inauguration ceremony, Lydia Jafiya, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized the importance of ethical conduct and integrity.
“This marks a decisive step in fostering accountability and transparency within the public service. The Ministry is committed to standing as a beacon of ethical conduct and good governance,” she said.
Mrs. Jafiya highlighted that combating corruption requires collective effort and urged staff to support the committee’s work.
“This is not the sole responsibility of ACTU but a collective one. Let us all embrace this initiative and demonstrate ethical behavior in all dealings,” she added, pledging her full support to the committee.
The ACTU Committee is tasked with promoting a culture of transparency, upholding accountability, and ensuring that all actions within the ministry adhere to the principles of the rule of law.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), described ACTU as a government-approved initiative designed to prevent corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He commended Mrs. Jafiya for her commitment to ensuring the committee’s successful inauguration, noting that ACTU aligns with global best practices and enhances institutional integrity.
“The Federal Ministry of Finance’s goal of managing the nation’s finances in a transparent, accountable, and efficient manner aligns perfectly with the mission of ACTU,” he said.
Mrs. Egundebi Oluwayemisi, the ministry’s Director of Special Duties, congratulated the new ACTU members, stressing the importance of staff participation in ensuring the initiative’s success.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Othman, assured that the team would prioritize staff sensitization and enhance internal control mechanisms.
“We are committed to promoting a culture of integrity, accountability, and transparency in the ministry’s operations,” he stated.
