Finidi rues missed chances as Rivers United fall to Black Bull in Mozambique
By Tosin Omojola –
Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has rued his team’s missed chances after they fell 0-1 to Black Bull of Mozambique in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round tie on Saturday.
A 50th-minute strike from Moctar Diallo made the difference, handing the Mozambican side a narrow lead heading into the decisive return leg next weekend in Uyo.
Reflecting on the game, Finidi expressed disappointment over his team’s inability to convert their chances, insisting that Rivers United deserved at least a draw.
“It was a good game. We could have gotten a draw, but this is football. In the first half, we had two scoring opportunities but didn’t convert them,” Finidi said during his post-match press conference.
“Apart from the only clear chance in the second half which Black Bull created and scored from, I think we tried to get something out of this game, but we didn’t. This is football,” he added.
The former Super Eagles winger commended the opponents for their performance but maintained confidence that his side would overturn the result in the return leg.
“We’ll go back home, work on our finishing, and make sure we get the needed result in Uyo,” the Rivers United boss assured.
Both sides will clash again for a place in the group stage of the competition on Sunday, October 26, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
