Fire razes shops in Ibadan’s Bode Market

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Friday destroyed several shops and goods worth millions of naira at the popular Bode Market in Ibadan South West Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to a report by The PUNCH, the incident occurred at the market located in Ibadan South West Local Government Area, with the cause of the fire yet to be determined as of the time of filing this report.

There was no official statement from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on the incident.

An eyewitness, who identified herself only as Serifat, said the blaze caused widespread destruction, leaving many traders devastated.

Firefighters were reportedly deployed to the scene shortly after the outbreak and succeeded in containing the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the market.

Bode Market is one of the largest commercial markets in Ibadan and serves as a major centre for the sale of herbs, animal skins and other traditional products. The market attracts traders and buyers from Oyo State, neighbouring South-West states and other parts of the country.
