First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has donated N100 million to victims of recent disasters in Niger State through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
According to a statement by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, the funds will be distributed to 70 affected families, with each family receiving N1 million, while the remaining funds will be used to provide food and essential supplies.
During the visit, Senator Tinubu expressed sympathy for the victims and prayed for an end to such occurrences in the state. She commended Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for his achievements in the agricultural sector, describing his efforts as crucial to both Niger State and Nigeria’s economic growth.
“You have been doing a lot for your state and, by extension, Nigeria in the area of agriculture. You should be proud of yourself,” she stated.
As part of her visit, Senator Tinubu also met with former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida and former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar. She described the visit as a courtesy call to check on their welfare and seek their counsel.
“Whatever we do in Abuja will not be complete without coming to them—asking how we are faring and seeking further advice. They are the patriarchs of this nation,” she noted.
Governor Bago appreciated the First Lady’s visit, acknowledging that while it was private, it demonstrated a motherly concern for the people.
In addition, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, urged Senator Tinubu to return to Niger State in an official capacity to inaugurate key agricultural projects aimed at boosting the state’s economy.
The First Lady was accompanied by Hajia Nana Shettima, Wife of the Vice President, as they sympathized with victims of recent explosions in the state that claimed several lives.
