First Lady to unveil winner of ‘Every Home A Garden’ competition

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is set to unveil the winner of the Every Home A Garden competition on December 4, 2024.

The announcement followed a final selection review conducted in her office by members of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Governing Board, assisted by friends of the initiative.

“The objective of this competition has been achieved because people can now feed themselves and their neighbors. When we started this journey almost a year ago, many doubted its feasibility,” the First Lady said in a statement released by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady.

She added, “As we can see, even from the State House garden, we know the possibilities of growing food at home. This initiative ensures food sufficiency. Just yesterday, I was still harvesting. The tea I had this morning is so medicinal, and I am truly grateful. This would not have been possible without God and the amazing team He has equipped this office with to carry out the work.”

The First Lady also expressed gratitude for the support from her husband, President Bola Tinubu, and the husbands of other members of RHI, who she described as friends of the initiative.

“We are satisfied with the selection of the winner, who will be officially announced on December 4,” she stated.

The competition’s winner was determined after a final presentation and grading of the top three finalists by the First Lady and a panel of assessors.

The Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, who serves as the Vice-Chairman of RHI and was part of the selection team, commended the First Lady for her dedication to the initiative.

The winner of the competition will receive a grand prize of ₦20 million.

Launched last year by the First Lady, the Every Home A Garden competition aims to encourage home and smart gardening as a strategy to boost food production and achieve food sufficiency across Nigeria, particularly among women.
