The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on young Nigerians to value and heed the wisdom of parents and elders, emphasizing the wealth of experience the older generation has to offer.
She made this appeal during a one-day workshop on corruption prevention for women and youth, organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Abuja.
Themed Women and Youth Alliance Against Corruption, the event brought together representatives from youth organizations, women’s groups, security agencies, and other institutions.
In her keynote address, Senator Tinubu stressed the pivotal role of families, particularly mothers, in addressing societal issues like corruption. She urged Nigerian women to actively contribute to shaping a better society.
“We must go beyond merely having our voices heard,” she remarked. “It is time to take on roles that create meaningful change. Defeating corruption requires the collective will of our entire nation.”
The First Lady further highlighted the need to address corruption at its roots within the family structure, cautioning that unchecked corruption could continue to plague the country.
“This menace is pervasive,” she noted. “It is evident in markets, government agencies, and even places of worship. We must remain steadfast in our commitment to combat this scourge.”
The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to tackling corruption, explaining that the workshop was aimed at mobilizing mothers, youth, and other critical stakeholders in the fight against the issue.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, also addressed the audience, emphasizing the vital role mothers play in raising a corruption-free generation.
Similarly, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth encouraged students to participate actively in governance rather than limiting their contributions to protests.
