Five dead in Sagamu-Benin-Ore auto crash

Five persons have lost their lives in a fatal crash that occurred along Ijebu-Ode / Ore expressway on Sunday.

The crash which occurred at about 06:09 am involved a Mack truck and a Honda Accord car with no registration number on it.

Florence Okpe, the sector command’s spokesperson while confirming the crash noted that the cause of the accident was over speed and wrongful overtaking on the part of the Honda car which had a side collision with the truck.

“ A total of 08 persons were involved 07 male adult and 01 female adult. 01 person was injured and 05 persons were recorded death 04 male adult and 01 female adult while 02 persons were unhurt.

“ The suspected causes of the crash were speed and wrongful overtaking on the part of the Honda car and had a side collision with the truck.

“ The injured victim was taken to General Hospital Ijebu-ode and the dead bodies deposited at the same Hospital morgue”, said Okpe.

The Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, characterised the collision as avoidable if caution was exercised, advising drivers to avoid making hasty turns on the motorway.

He however, expressed his condolences to the deceased families and recommended them to contact the FRSC Ijebu-ode Command for more information regarding the tragedy.
