At least five people were feared dead on Saturday after a diesel tanker reportedly lost control and crushed four commercial Nissan Micra cars along the Iwo Road–Ojoo Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The accident occurred at Aduloju Bus Stop, opposite Dominion City, involving a fully loaded tanker and four commercial vehicles. The impact left the cars badly damaged, with several passengers reportedly trapped in the wreckage.

Preliminary reports attributed to the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) indicated that the tanker might have lost control while travelling at high speed. Suspected brake failure was also identified as a possible cause of the crash, although the circumstances had yet to be conclusively established.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as residents and passers-by rushed to rescue passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicles before emergency responders arrived. One eyewitness said the tanker suddenly swerved into the commercial cars, leaving their occupants with little opportunity to escape.

Following the crash, officials of OYRTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police were deployed to the scene to coordinate rescue operations, manage traffic and prevent further accidents. Emergency teams also began clearing the wreckage to ease congestion along the busy expressway.

Meanwhile, reports indicated that the bodies of those feared dead were being evacuated to a nearby morgue, while injured survivors were receiving medical attention at local hospitals.

However, authorities had yet to confirm the final casualty figures at the time of the report.

The crash disrupted movement along the Iwo Road–Ojoo corridor, a busy route in Ibadan, as emergency workers carried out rescue and recovery operations. Motorists were advised to exercise caution, observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles were roadworthy when travelling on the highway.
