Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have arrived safely in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of their campaign at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The team landed in Casablanca on Wednesday and has settled at the Ibis Hotel, where preparations for the tournament will continue.
The Flamingos are drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and Korea DPR.
Nigeria secured qualification after defeating Benin Republic in the final round of the African qualifiers.
The tournament will mark the Flamingos’ ninth appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, following previous outings in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Their best finish came in 2022, when they claimed third place.
The team is coached by Akeem Busari, with captain Harmony Chidi expected to play a key role in Nigeria’s campaign.
Chidi featured at the 2024 edition in the Dominican Republic, scoring at just 14 years old. She returns as captain after contributing five goals during the qualifying campaign and three more at the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup in September.
With her pace, energy and attacking threat, Chidi will be one of the players Nigeria will look to as the Flamingos begin their latest quest for success on the global stage.
