FLASHBACK: When Fayose predicted Obaseki would fight Wike, PDP

Governors of Rivers and Edo states, Nyesom Wike and Godwin Obaseki, have been in the news recently over the war of words between them.
Wike had while reacting to Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shaibu’s threat that they were going to leave the PDP if they continued to be treated like outcasts, described him (Shaibu) as an ingrate.
This did not sit down well with Obaseki, who published an advertorial to defend his deputy.
Obaseki further accused Wike of treating PDP as his personal property, stating that Edo State could not be bullied nor procured.
Responding to Obaseki’s remarks, Wike said the Edo governor was a serial betrayal, apologising to Obaseki’s predecessor and former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole for not believing him.
Fayose saw ahead
Ahead of the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State, Obaseki fell out with his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, who was then national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a bid to return for a second term in office, Obaseki defected to the PDP, with the help of Wike who served as his campaign coordinator.
While appearing on a Plus TV interview before the election, Fayose however said the relationship between Obaseki and Wike wouldn’t last.
According to the former Ekiti State governor, even though he believed Obaseki would win the election, he said he would eventually fall out with Wike.
He further asked Obaseki to keep his own side of the agreement with the PDP who handed over their party for him to contest.
“Obaseki will win this election because Oshiomhole is a very bad man. But if he wins this election, I won’t be surprised if he turns his back on the likes of my friend Wike and all that.
“They are fighting tooth and nail for him but you should remember that I said it and I pray that Obaseki will not allow us to play this video. Because (for) those in the PDP now, he must keep his agreement with them, he must keep the agreement with them because they kept the party for his coming,” Fayose said in 2020.
