The two weeks’ old strike embarked upon by the Resident Doctors of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo has been called off.

A communiqué made available to Westernpost on Friday by the Chairman of the striking doctors, Dr Olaopa Olutobi said that the intervention of the association’s national President, Dr Ishaya Godiya and the South West caucus leader of the Association, Dr Adedayo Williams made the suspension a reality.

Parts of the demands of the doctors to the hospital management and the Federal Government were the recruitment of clinical staff to reduce the work load of members, who work round the clock and the provision of more lodges for medical personnel who could no longer bear the pairing of bunks.

The chairman applauded the intervention of the national president, the Southwest leader and other well-meaning Nigerians who realised the negative impact the strike was having on people’s health and the danger it might pose on the society at large.

The striking doctors have been urged to resume immediately, while the management of the health institution is expected to consider some of their demands.
