Former Arise News anchor Ikokwu dumps ADC for NDC ahead of primaries
Former Arise News anchor and House of Representatives aspirant for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Dr Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ikokwu announced her defection in a statement titled “A Strategic Realignment for Purposeful Service,” noting that the decision came amid ongoing political realignments and the limited time left before party primaries across the country.
She described the move as a difficult one, particularly as a politician from Anambra State, where recent developments in the political space are expected to have significant impact.
According to her, the prevailing uncertainty and shifting alliances influenced her decision to seek a more stable and forward-looking political platform.
“I had to make a quick and tough decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after careful reflection. With the level of uncertainty, shifting alliances, and ongoing realignments across the political space, it is important to find a platform that is stable, forward-looking, and aligned with the vision for meaningful engagement,” she said.
She added that elements of the political coalition she identifies with had already aligned with the NDC, making her transition both timely and necessary.
Ikokwu stated that her primary goal remains to effectively serve her constituency, stressing that the move was aimed at positioning herself on a platform that offers the right environment to translate commitment into tangible impact.
She reaffirmed her commitment to accountable leadership, people-centred governance, and progress, while seeking the understanding and continued support of her supporters as she pursues her political ambition.
