Former Osun APC chairman, Oba Famodun, dies at 67

The immediate past chairman of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and embattled Owa of Igbajo, Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III, has joined his ancestors.

The monarch reportedly died on Friday, 28 November 2025, after a brief illness while receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Confirming his passing in a press statement, Prince David Adekunle Famodun, who signed on behalf of the Gbeleru Royal Family of Igbajo, described the late king as a peace-loving ruler who worked tirelessly for unity, development, and progress in Igbajoland.

He said Oba Famodun died at the age of 67 and is survived by his wife and children.

The family stated that the late traditional ruler, who was the 30th Owa of Igbajo, left an indelible mark on the community, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

It would be recalled that Oba Famodun was installed and presented with the staff of office on 24 November 2022 by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

However, his appointment later became a subject of dispute following a white paper by Governor Ademola Adeleke, which led to the installation of Oba Ademola Makinde as a replacement.

Despite a court reinstatement order in January 2025, Oba Famodun did not resume the throne because the monarch installed to replace him remained in position.
