Former Osun governor warns Adeleke against defection to APC

Former Osun State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has cautioned Governor Ademola Adeleke against defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that such a move would jeopardize his political future.

Adeleke recently stirred controversy by publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu of the APC for re-election in 2027, raising speculation about a possible defection. Oyinlola, however, stressed that the people of Osun would not support such a shift.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Oyinlola said Adeleke is facing mounting pressure to switch allegiance to the ruling party, but insisted that the governor must resist it in the interest of his political survival.

“APC has not fared well with the people of Osun,” Oyinlola said. “Telling him to roll over to APC will mean ruining his political future. Obviously, the people will not go along with that. He knows that, but there is pressure on him.”

The former governor also criticized the state of governance in Osun, lamenting that local government allocations have been withheld for six months. He said this development has hampered effective service delivery at the grassroots.

“It’s now six months since the local government allocation in Osun state has been withheld,” he said. “This means the people have been shortchanged because the local government is no longer running.”

Oyinlola urged Adeleke to take decisive action to ensure proper governance, noting that citizens had entrusted him with the mandate to lead effectively.

“As governor, whom the people have reposed their confidence in to govern them well, he must do something to ensure that the government is running well,” he added.
