Former TOP coordinator, ex-PDP appointees dump opposition, rejoin Osun APC

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A former coordinator of The Osun Progressives (TOP) in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, Adeniran Ajala, alongside some former political appointees under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Ajala, who led the group under the banner of Osun Progressives Ambassadors, disclosed that many of the returnees were former members of the TOP faction loyal to ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Western Post in Osogbo on Sunday, Ajala said he was originally a member of the APC and served as a ward chairman in Odo-Otin Local Government before joining TOP during the internal crisis that rocked the party.

According to him, members of the group were initially made to believe that TOP was created to reposition the APC and not to work against the party’s governorship candidate in the 2022 election, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The former TOP coordinator also dismissed claims by the Osun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that he was never part of Aregbesola’s political structure, insisting that prominent members of the faction knew him well.

“All that the ADC said are lies. Everybody in TOP knew me, including those issuing the statement. I was the coordinator of TOP in Odo-Otin Local Government,” he said.

The ADC had stated that Ajala was never part of the Omoluabi Progressives or the African Democratic Congress family.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary-elect, Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun, the ADC said, “To set the record straight, Adeniran Ajala was merely a member of the APC whose political activities were limited to his ward level in Odo-Otin Local Government. He exited the APC as far back as 2022 immediately after the Osun governorship election and moved to the Peoples Democratic Party.”
