FORPS commissions boreholes in two Abuja communities

As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, the Friends of Regent Primary School (FORPS), Maitama, Abuja, has donated two manually operated boreholes to Kogo II and Barangoni communities in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The boreholes were officially commissioned on Friday, July 4, 2025, in a ceremony attended by community leaders, school officials, and members of the donor group.
Speaking at the event, Chairperson of FORPS, Mrs. Salma Dahiru Muhammed, described the project as a significant milestone in the organisation’s continued commitment to community development and social impact.
“Access to clean water is a fundamental human need that remains unmet in many areas across Abuja. This project is a response to that need—providing sustainable access to potable water, improving health outcomes, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the residents of these communities,” she said.
Mrs. Muhammed expressed gratitude to all donors and volunteers who supported the project, describing their contributions as vital to its success. She reaffirmed FORPS’s commitment to further initiatives that support underserved communities.
Also speaking, Headmaster of Regent Primary School, Mr. Shaun Stockden, noted that the borehole project was conceptualised and completed within seven months. “Our annual fundraisers are targeted at community-based interventions, and this is one of many impactful projects we aim to sustain,” he said.
Vice Chairperson of FORPS, Mrs. Fiona Ewa, explained that the project was inspired by disturbing images of rural residents and animals sharing the same water sources. “We were compelled to act. A reliable and clean water supply can significantly transform hygiene and daily living standards. Each borehole is capable of providing up to 3,000 liters of water per day,” she added.
In their separate remarks, the community leaders of Kogo II and Barangoni, Chief Samuel Gimba and Mr. Timothy Yohana, respectively, expressed appreciation to FORPS for the intervention. They commended the initiative as life-changing and pledged to ensure proper use and maintenance of the water facilities.
