Fubara embraces presidential peace deal, vows to implement it

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vowed to implement the presidential peace deal that aims to end the state’s political turmoil.
In a state wide broadcast on Monday, Fubara expressed his conviction that peace is worth any sacrifice.
“As someone who was directly involved in the whole ordeal, I have carefully examined the terms of the deal and I have realized that it is not as terrible as some of those who are truly against it make it seem,” he said.
He also said that the deal, which has sparked diverse reactions from Nigerians, is not a trap but a path to lasting peace and stability in the state.
“Therefore, I restate my acceptance of the president’s peace declaration and my dedication to implementing its spirit and letters in a way that will bring back political stability to our beloved state without undermining the common interest of our people and our valued and shared democratic values.
“Both sides have shown some goodwill in the implementation process by withdrawing the alleged impeachment notice on their side, and by releasing the previously withheld allowances of the members of the state House of Assembly by the government,” he added.
The governor appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his mediation, emphasizing that it shows his deep love for the state.
He declared, “By this single act, our dear President has proven that he cares for Rivers State and wants nothing but a perfect reign of peace in our state with his Presidential Peace Proclamation on the 18th of December 2023.”
