Fubara: I’m not scared of anything — The worst that can happen is leaving office

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has stated that he is not afraid of the outcome of the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Fubara made this declaration on Monday during the inauguration of residential quarters for government house staff in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Speaking at the event, he said the worst that could happen to him is losing his position as governor.
According to him, every time his administration seeks to achieve stability, obstacles emerge to derail progress.
“No matter how we have been fooled in this state, it has gotten to the point where the state has decided to take their destinies in their hands,” Fubara said.
“Inasmuch as I don’t subscribe to violence, when the time comes for us to make a decision, I will lead the course for that decision.
“I’m not scared of anything; the worst that can happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth? Will it stop me from existing? I’m not bothered about that. The right thing must be done and said when the opportunity is given to us.”
Rivers State has been embroiled in a political crisis for over two years, fueled by a rift between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The division has also split the state house of assembly into two factions.
Last Friday, the Supreme Court upheld a federal high court ruling barring the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from releasing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.
The apex court also ordered the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume sitting and nullified the local government elections held in the state on October 5, 2024.
These rulings have given Wike’s faction an advantage in the ongoing political struggle in the state.
