Fubara vows to maintain peace amid Rivers State political tensions

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged to oppose any action that could threaten peace and security in the state, amid ongoing political tensions.

The governor made the commitment while serving as Special Guest at the finals of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament on Saturday. Fubara emphasised that protecting lives and property remains a top priority for his administration.

“What is important is that I am still the Governor of Rivers State, and we will continue to do what we have promised the Rivers people,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to fulfilling his administration’s promises.

Governor Fubara expressed satisfaction that the week-long tournament concluded without incident, describing the peaceful event as evidence that Rivers State is safe for residents, visitors, and investors.

However, he lamented the recurring political crises that have coincided with the polo tournament over the past three years. “It is really unfortunate that each time you are having your tournament, there is always one problem,” he said, recalling disruptions in 2024 and 2025.

Despite these challenges, Fubara assured that his administration would continue to support individuals and groups committed to the state’s development. He also pledged to upgrade the Port Harcourt Polo Club, renowned for its natural grass polo pitch.

The governor encouraged guests, including foreign participants, to enjoy Port Harcourt’s serenity and to help project positive narratives about the state. Dignitaries at the event included the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, as well as polo players from India, Argentina, and across Nigeria.
