Fuji music star, Alhaji (Dr.) Sefiu Alao Adekunle, also known as Baba Oko, has responded to plagiarism claims made by his colleague, Taye Adebisi Akande, popularly known as Taye Currency.
In reaction to these allegations, Saheed Ojubanire, the media manager for Sefiu Alao, described the claims as unfounded and untrue.
According to a viral video from a recent event, Taye Currency alleged that Alao had once copied the music style of another Fuji star while he was still establishing himself in the industry. Baba Honourable, as Taye Currency is also called, explicitly mentioned Sefiu Alao in the video, claiming that Alao had copied someone’s style.
In response, Ojubanire stated, “This is an unwarranted allegation by a junior Fuji artiste, Taye Adebisi Akande, popularly known as Taye Currency, accusing Sefiu Alao of ‘copying’ the style of a senior and highly respected Fuji artiste.”
Ojubanire further said, “Nothing could be farther from the truth than the baseless public claim made by Taye Currency, suggesting that Baba Oko ever copied any artiste’s style.”
He also argued that Taye Currency may not understand the difference between an artiste looking up to senior colleagues as role models and actually copying or plagiarizing their music styles.
Ojubanire acknowledged that Sefiu Alao did once regard the senior Fuji artiste mentioned as a role model.
“It would have been more reasonable if Taye Currency had said Baba Oko looked up to the older Fuji legend as a role model rather than telling a story about his senior colleagues in the industry that he knows nothing about because he is too young to tell such stories,” Ojubanire remarked.
Additionally, Ojubanire claimed that Taye Currency had recently engaged a music producer based in Agege, Lagos State, who had been feeding him false and unfounded stories about the evolution of the Fuji music industry.
“If not, where is the evidence of any live or studio album where Sefiu Alao is said to have copied the style of the Fuji artiste mentioned? Unless, of course, Sefiu Alao was paying homage to the senior artiste by singing one of his popular songs in his honor,” Ojubanire said.
He concluded by advising Taye Currency to verify any information given to him by his new music producer before going public with it.
“If Taye Currency fails to verify the claims he’s being fed, his source will continue to mislead him, potentially leading to further criticism, just as is happening now.”
