FUTA breaks silence on alleged fake admission of Civil Engineering graduate

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has addressed concerns surrounding the academic status of one of its graduates, Jamiu Basola, whose admission was flagged by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as irregular.
In a statement issued by the university’s Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA clarified that Basola was admitted into the Department of Civil Engineering during the 2017/2018 academic session after successfully passing the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The issue arose when Basola attempted to process his mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) but was informed that JAMB had classified his admission as “fake.”
Following the development, JAMB advised Basola to report the matter to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.
In response, the Police invited FUTA for clarification. The university presented all relevant admission documents to aid the investigation.
The Police, after reviewing the documents, compiled and forwarded their report to JAMB headquarters for further action.
FUTA also confirmed that it had written formally to JAMB to follow up on the issue, reinforcing its commitment to resolving the matter.
“FUTA has fulfilled its responsibility in this case by providing all necessary documents and information regarding Jamiu Basola’s admission. We now await further action from JAMB, the body that raised the concern,” the statement read.
