GAC member planning to impose son as APC chairmanship candidate in Ejigbo LCDA – Group

A political group under the umbrella of the Asiwaju Vanguard, has called on the party leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC, Lagos Chapter) to caution a member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Chief Muraina Taiwo not to impose his son, Taoreed Taiwo as the chairmanship candidate in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (ELCDA). 

The group in a statement signed by its Convener, Teslim Agbonlahor, explained that the son does not reside in the council area, stating that the attempt to impose him portrays abuse of influence, political insensitivity, and a complete disregard for the principle of equity and grassroots democracy.

Agbonlahor argued that the GAC member had already been rewarded by the party in the recent past as his son was appointed Sole Administrator of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area.

“Taoheed Taiwo is not a resident of Ejigbo LCDA and has zero active connection with the people, structures, or political machinery of the local council. He resides in London. A leader who cannot identify with the people cannot be trusted to lead them.

“In 2021, Taoheed Taiwo contested for the Chairmanship position at Isolo Local Council Development Area, further exposing his lack of consistency, absence of ideological commitment, and purely opportunistic agenda. This clearly shows that he is simply shopping for a “juicy” platform to grab power—not to serve, not to lead, and certainly not to build.

“We therefore ask: Why should Ejigbo LCDA be the next dumping ground for recycled ambition and entitled arrogance? The people of Ejigbo are politically conscious, development-focused, and have paid their dues. They do not deserve to be ruled by absentee politicians parachuted in by family influence.

The group, however, urged the Lagos APC leadership to investigate and prevent the alleged imposition plan, adding that Ejigbo APC should be allowed to choose its leaders through a transparent, inclusive, and merit-driven process that respects grassroots integrity.
