Ganduje hints at Kwankwaso’s return, calls him ‘ a fish out of water’

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, says the ruling party is open to welcoming former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso back into its fold.
Speaking to journalists at the APC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Ganduje described Kwankwaso, now a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), as “a fish out of water” and hinted at reconciliation.
“The APC is deepening and widening democracy in the country,” Ganduje said. “Kwankwaso is a fish out of water, trying to find his way back. We won’t abandon him. A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
Ganduje said the party would not shut the door if Kwankwaso seeks to return, likening the situation to a family member seeking shelter.
Kwankwaso defected from the APC in 2018, citing internal disagreements. However, recent political developments, including a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, have fueled speculation of his possible return.
Just this week, Kano governor Abba Yusuf declared that the state’s NNPP would follow Kwankwaso’s lead if he made a move, further stirring talk of a potential shift.
