A fire outbreak on Monday razed a six-room private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. at No. S4/593B, Olubi Primary School, Wesley, Elekuro, in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state.
Though no lives were lost, the fire caused extensive damage to the building before firefighters arrived and successfully prevented it from spreading to nearby properties.
Maroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, confirmed the incident.
According to him, “The fire was caused by an unattended domestic cooking gas cylinder, which exploded and set the building ablaze.
“The distress call was received at exactly 10:22 a.m. on Monday, June 16, through the Security Trust Fund toll-free line, reporting a house on fire at the above address.
“The agency’s personnel, led by ACFS Adekola (Mrs), promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, it was a private residential building engulfed by fire. We swiftly swung into action and prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings and properties.”
He advised members of the public to exercise caution during cooking activities, particularly when using gas or electric cookers, warning that careless behaviour could lead to preventable fire incidents.
