Golf: Dayo Adejuwon wins IGC Singles Matchplay

Mr. Dayo Adejuwon, a member of the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), has been crowned the champion of this year’s IGC Singles Matchplay. Known affectionately as “Dangote,” Adejuwon triumphed after an intense six-month competition.
Playing off a handicap of seven, Adejuwon faced off against the club’s Competition Secretary, Mr. Bunmi Oladimeji, who played off a handicap of 14.
In a separate event, the duo of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ahmed Suleiman secured victory in the Doubles Matchplay, defeating Mr. Akin Funmilayo and Mr. Demola Adegbeyi.
Following his victory, Adejuwon expressed his joy at being named the Club’s champion, attributing his success to hard work and a deep love for the game.
“To the glory of God, I appreciate the privilege to participate and win, and I thank Him for this victory,” he said.
“I really worked hard for this achievement. We started this journey six months ago, and reaching the final is a privilege. I also owe my gratitude to my wife and my mother for their unwavering encouragement.”
Club captain Mr. Seyi Alaba commended both the singles and doubles champions for their exceptional performances and dedication to the sport. He noted how their skills and determination have inspired fellow club members.
Alaba emphasized the significance of sportsmanship and camaraderie within the club, urging all members to continue striving for excellence both on and off the course.
He also expressed enthusiasm for upcoming competitions in the next year, aiming to foster a supportive environment for all golfers.
“This is the club championship, featuring singles and doubles Matchplay, which is the premier competition in any golf club. This year, we made it more robust than ever, culminating in a thrilling final among the finalists,” he stated.
“All golfers look forward to this challenge. The winner will have their picture displayed at the club pavilion for an entire year.

“All golfers eagerly anticipate this challenge, as participation and victory are highly coveted. The winner’s picture will be displayed at the club pavilion for a whole year. Currently, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola is the defending champion, but today (Saturday), we have a new winner in Mr. Dayo Adejuwon.”
In addition to the singles and doubles competitions, Mr. Mike Babalola claimed the title of veteran champion with a score of 100 gross and 76 net, while Sade Ajala won the IGC Ladies Net with 88 gross and 75 net.
