Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mariam Eniola Bolaji for winning Africa’s first medal in para-badminton at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris.
Eniola, who recently dedicated her rise to the number two position in the world rankings to Governor AbdulRazaq, defeated Ukraine’s Kozyna Oksana 21-9, 21-9 in the Women’s Singles SL3 bronze medal match in Paris.
The governor’s congratulatory message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin on Monday.
Eniola’s achievement marks not only Nigeria’s first medal at the event but also the first time an African athlete has won a Paralympic medal in badminton at this level, according to the Governor.
Governor AbdulRazaq praised Eniola’s remarkable accomplishment, stating that it underscores the importance of hard work, brilliance, determination, and equal opportunity in achieving success.
He highlighted Eniola as a shining example of how people with physical disabilities can achieve outstanding success through perseverance and a positive attitude.
Commending Eniola for making the people of Africa, Nigeria, and Kwara proud, Governor AbdulRazaq encouraged her and others like her to continue striving for greatness.
He assured that the government would always support all demographics of its citizens, including persons living with disabilities.
