Gov AbdulRazaq clears pension arrears, approves new payments

The Kwara State government has announced that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s has successfully cleared the total pension arrears inherited from the previous administration, according to a recent statement from the Ministry of Finance.
The statement, released by Commissioner for Finance Dr. Hauwa Nuru, revealed that the current administration had settled N1,870,636,297.67 of the inherited N3,315,686,405.33 in pension arrears. As of July 15, 2024, the administration approved an additional N1,445,050,107.66 to cover the remaining balance.
Dr. Nuru confirmed that the AbdulRazaq administration is current on all pension payments, including those for local government retirees. She emphasized that the outstanding arrears of N3,315,686,405.33 were inherited as of May 2019.
According to her, in a recent local government allocation meeting, an additional ₦230,209,389.31 was approved to settle outstanding furniture allowance arrears for former councilors from various periods between 1999 and 2016.
She added that, the administration has approved cash-backing for the 2024 promotion exercise for eligible senior and junior local government staff and the 2023 promotion exercise for SUBEB staff.
Highlighting that these actions reflect Gov AbdulRazaq’s ongoing commitment to enhancing worker welfare, she disclosed that the governor has consistently promised to address all pension and promotion arrears from the previous administration, a promise he has maintained since taking office.
“The administration has also been regularly allocating N100 million monthly to address long-standing gratuity arrears and has cleared all inherited salary arrears dating back to 2015,” she added.
