By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The governor announced the endorsement in a statement personally signed and released on Tuesday in Ilorin following what he described as extensive consultations with party leaders and structures across the state.
According to AbdulRazaq, Yahaya Seriki possesses the qualities needed to sustain the administration’s achievements and provide continued leadership for the people of Kwara State.
He described the APC governorship aspirant as young, people-oriented, astute and broad-minded, adding that Seriki has built extensive goodwill through years of political mobilisation and investment in the state.
AbdulRazaq said the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from participating in the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The governor, however, appealed to party leaders and members to support Seriki’s candidacy in the interest of unity, cohesion and the continued success of the APC in Kwara State.
“The choice of Amb. Yahaya Seriki is neither a disapproval of any of our eminently qualified aspirants nor a whimsical attempt to delegitimise the noble aspirations of our people. But in a race involving some 16 great minds for one office, only one person can take the shot at a time,” AbdulRazaq said.
He also commended the conduct and statesmanship of the governorship aspirants, noting that they had all demonstrated discipline and capacity to build on the achievements recorded by his administration over the past seven years.
