Gov AbdulRazaq engages citizens as Kwara begins 2026 budget preparation

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday urged citizens to give constructive feedback on government activities, including suggestions on how to serve them better.
Speaking at a citizens’ engagement session on the 2026 budget in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area, the governor encouraged residents to provide useful input on their needs, noting that the government is open to being told what to improve upon.
The engagement session, organised by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, is part of the administration’s initiative to gather public input through consultations with CSOs, NGOs, the organised private sector, traditional rulers, and the general public.
“I am glad to be back in Moro today and for this large turnout. This session is good for our development because it helps us plan well,” AbdulRazaq said. “A budget is a statement of intent which focuses on the direction the government is headed in the financial year. As an administration, we have made it a duty to constantly harvest the views of the public and specific areas of focus for the coming financial year.”
He added that citizens’ engagement has become a barometer for identifying public needs and determining how resources should be allocated across the state, stressing that every government project and programme is important.
Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mary Arinde, described the citizens’ engagement as a compelling necessity for effective governance.
She explained that the exercise provides an avenue to listen and respond to the needs of the people, promote accountability, and encourage citizens to actively participate in decision-making.
The Ohoro of Shao, Oba Dr. Obalowu Atolagbe, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his achievements, particularly in promoting gender balance in government, developing basic infrastructure, and advancing human capital development.
