Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq laid a wreath at the cenotaph of the unknown soldier on Wednesday, January 15, marking the conclusion of the nationwide commemoration of the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Governor also released white pigeons, a symbolic gesture signifying Nigeria’s commitment to peace and harmony following the 30-month civil war, which claimed the lives of countless soldiers and civilians across the country.

The solemn event, held in Ilorin, the state capital, was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi; security commanders; war veterans; community leaders; academics; members of the Nigerian Legion; and spouses of fallen heroes.

Governor AbdulRazaq urged Nigerians to honor the Armed Forces and security personnel for their immeasurable sacrifices for the nation. He also called on citizens to pray for the country’s continued peace and unity.
“The significance of today is that we must never forget those who held us together. We must also remember their families,” he said, speaking to reporters shortly after interacting with veterans at the medical pavilion funded by the state for members of the Nigerian Legion.

“We should continue to pray for Nigeria to have peace, harmony, and improved security,” he added.
