Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed Quarter Guard and the remodeled headquarters of the 22 Armoured Brigade at Sobi, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
The projects, executed by the Nigerian Army, align with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to sustain a culture of maintenance, according to the Army.

The Governor also unveiled three new vehicles and 10 motorcycles donated by the state government to enhance the command’s operational capacity.
“We are here today to commission the Quarter Guard and other facilities of the Nigerian Army. One thing is clear: any money appropriated by the Federal Government through the National Assembly trickles down to the Army. This event serves as proof,” the Governor said at the commissioning ceremony.

“It is not just about buying weapons; it is also about providing the necessary infrastructure for the military to carry out their duties effectively.
“We appreciate the Nigerian Army, especially here in Kwara, for helping to maintain peace. They are doing their best to ensure we sleep peacefully every night.”
Present at the event were the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu; Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Maj. Gen. Oluwafemi Williams; and the Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education (NACOE), Maj. Gen. Umar Nasir Babangida, among other senior officers.
Maj. Gen. Onubogu commended the Governor for his continued support, which he said strengthens the command’s ability to maintain peace in the state.
“For Kwara State, we must thank God for the peace we enjoy. Of course, there are areas of concern, but we have been able to manage them. This is partly due to the support we receive from His Excellency, who spares no effort in ensuring that Nigerian Army troops in the state carry out their operations effectively,” he said.
“As you can see, we have just commissioned the 22 Brigade Quarter Guard and the three vehicles donated by the state government. His Excellency has also approved the purchase of 10 motorcycles, which were commissioned today.
“All these contributions enhance our operations within Kwara State. The security and peace we enjoy are made possible by this kind of support, and we are grateful to His Excellency.”
Maj. Gen. Williams, in his remarks, stated that he remodeled the Brigade Complex to give it a befitting outlook and create a conducive working environment for officers and soldiers, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision.
“This project wouldn’t have been possible without the logistical support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede,” he said.
“I also extend my gratitude to His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, for his interventions, which ensured the successful completion of the project.”
