Gov Bago commends Niger’s performance at National Milo Basketball competition
… pledges support for sport activities
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has commended the Niger State male and female contingents to the Northern Nigeria National Milo Basketball competition in Lagos for making the state proud.
The Governor expressed satisfaction at the outstanding performance of the Niger State male secondary school team which came 2nd and their female counterparts who clinched the 3rd position at the competition.
In a statement signed by Bologi Ibrahim, his Chief Press Secretary, the Governor, promised to continue encouraging and supporting sport activities.
Governor Bago then announced the gift of N1.5 million for the male team and N1million for the girls. He also donated a new bus to the team.
He also announced that the coaches of the players would be hired as civil servants in the State.
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, who led the team to the Government House, said the excellent performance of the team at the Zonal competition provided the platform for them to represent Northern Nigeria at the national competition.
She said that this is the first time the females are going for competition, and they came 3rd.
The Commissioner also noted that this is the 3rd time the team is winning trophies for Niger State.
She commended the State government for its support and appealed for more, to encourage other students.
