Gov Eno reunites with classmates, pledges support for education development
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on alumni across the country to support the growth of their alma maters, stressing that educational development requires collective effort.
Governor Eno made the call at the quarterly meeting of the Victory High School Old Students’ Association (1981 set) held at the school hall in Ikeja, Lagos. He said individuals owe much of their social attainment to the nurturing of their schools and must acknowledge such contributions.
He emphasized the need for qualitative education, noting that under his leadership, Akwa Ibom State is building model primary schools across the state as well as model secondary schools in each of the three senatorial districts to deliver sound and comprehensive education to children.
The Governor explained that his decision to personally attend the meeting was intentional, not only to reconnect with old classmates but also to relive the environment that shaped his journey to prominence.
Governor Eno expressed appreciation to the association for keeping the school’s flag flying and thanked God for blessing the 1981 set with distinguished personalities, including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, captains of industry and other accomplished individuals.
He also thanked the association for conferring on him the title of Grand Patron, for their support during his governorship election and during the funeral of his late wife, Pastor Patience Eno, pledging continued commitment to the activities of the group.
Earlier, the President of the association, Pastor J. K. Abiodun, described the meeting as an opportunity to move the association forward and honour Governor Eno, who was their former Senior Prefect. He recalled their school days together, describing the reunion as nostalgic.
Other speakers, including the Global President of Victory High School Alumni, Mr. Taiwo Salami, commended the 1981 set for their coordination and for setting a standard worthy of emulation by other sets.
