Gov Umo Eno blames political detractors over daughter’s viral accusation

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has dismissed a viral video in which his daughter, Jane Ufot, appeared to accuse him of sacrificing her late mother, Patience Umo Eno, describing it as the handiwork of political detractors.

The video, which resurfaced on social media recently, shows Ufot emotionally pleading, “Daddy please. Let us talk before this thing destroys. I’m not a sacrifice, mummy was, but I’m not.” In another part of the footage, she is heard telling her daughter to repeat words suggesting fears for their safety, referencing the deaths of her siblings.

The late Patience Umo Eno passed away on September 27, 2024, following an illness. The video, reportedly recorded shortly after her death, has reignited public interest and speculation as it circulates widely online.

Reacting to the video on Saturday, Governor Eno linked its resurgence to political motives, noting its timing—just before the second anniversary of his administration’s milestone celebration.

“We are in political times, so you expect more of that. My family is intact, and the event they were talking about happened immediately after my wife passed away last year,” Eno stated. “Why is it surfacing now? This means there are detractors around.”

He attributed his daughter’s statements to the trauma of losing her mother, appealing to the public not to revive painful memories. “The pressure kids go through when they lose a loved one could be traumatic,” he said. “It is enough that I have lost my wife, and I pray they allow her peaceful soul to rest.”

The governor reiterated his commitment to governance, emphasizing that he would not allow personal attacks to derail his administration’s focus. “I can’t be distracted. I remain focused and continue to serve the people of Akwa Ibom,” he affirmed.

Governor Eno recently made headlines for announcing his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that has added fuel to political speculations in the state.

Despite the controversy, Eno insisted that his family remains united and resilient, calling for understanding during what he described as a politically charged period.
