Governor Adeleke adopted by PDP as Reps in Osun join Accord Party

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Monday joined the Accord Party, while the State chapter of the PDP formally adopted Governor Ademola Adeleke as its candidate for the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
The announcements were made at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting of the PDP held at the party’s State Secretariat, Biket Junction, Osogbo.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hon. Clement Akanni Olohunwa, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, disclosed that the PDP House of Representatives members from the state had resolved to defect to the Accord Party.
He said, “On behalf of Mahruf Adewale in Osogbo, Bamidele Salam representing Ede, Soji Adetunji representing Ikirun, Mudashiru Lukman Alani representing Iwo, and Lanre Oladebo representing Irewole/Isokan, all of us from today become members of the Accord Party.”
Olohunwa added that their internal calculations showed that Adeleke secured 80 per cent of the votes, while other parties shared the remaining 20 per cent among themselves.
Also speaking, Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West, acknowledged that the party was facing a leadership crisis at the national level, which made it unable to present a candidate for the governorship poll in the state. He noted, “The Governor has secured the ticket in Accord, and we are adopting him as our candidate to vote for on August 15,” urging party members across wards to mobilise support for Accord.
In his remarks, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, said that after consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the three senatorial districts, the State chapter resolved to direct all its structures, from polling units to the State executive, to give full support to Adeleke’s re-election under the Accord platform.
Responding, Adeleke thanked the PDP for endorsing him and expressed appreciation to the Accord Party for accepting him, urging supporters to vote massively for Accord on August 15.
