Governor Adeleke procures new tractors to boost food production

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received the first batch of 72 newly assembled tractors out of 114 paid for to boost food production and support farmers in the state.

Speaking after a meeting with a Nordic firm interested in setting up a tractor assembly plant in Osun, Adeleke stated that his plans for the agricultural sector are robust and inclusive. He added, “The state is now set for the implementation of various programmes in the sector.”

He noted that while the administration had acquired new tractors, the state government would also explore leasing deals with tractor hiring associations to ensure that farmers receive the necessary support to increase food production and curb rising inflation.

The governor also disclosed that in addition to the newly procured tractors, moribund but useful tractors would be repaired.

Adeleke assured residents that he would continue to deliver on all his promises despite the harsh economic conditions currently affecting the country.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, about 24 trucks, each carrying three tractors, have arrived in the state as part of the first batch, with more expected to follow.

He noted that the newly procured tractors come equipped with three-disc ploughs and can also be attached to carriers.

It would be recalled that in June, the governor outlined his administration’s plans for the agricultural sector, assuring stakeholders that farm inputs, mechanization, and food security issues are being addressed by his government.
